In an increasingly competitive job market, being one of a few as opposed to one of many is the critical factor. The job market of yesterday was far simpler and easier to navigate.  There was “person” in Personnel and “human” in Human Resources.  With websites, job boards, portals the candidate is far removed from the hiring manager.  If you are one of the lucky contestants to secure an in person interview, you want every weapon in your arsenal to help you win the job.
